The father of a teenager punched and kicked unconscious outside a shop by a gang of up to eight Asian youths in a racial attack is appealing for help to catch the attackers. Martin Porter and Mark Machin were attacked outside the Late Shop in Sneyd Green after being racially abused as they went to buy sweets on Friday night.

Martin, aged 19, of Kidsgrove, who was being driven to Hanley for a night out with his friend and their girlfriends, was taken to hospital after suffering bleeding on the brain, a broken nose and displaced teeth.

Mark suffered extensive cuts and bruises. And when Mark's father, Graham, who was taking the two couples to Hanley, intervened he was also attacked. As punches and kicks rained in, the victims say the attackers shouted 'you white bastards'.

Now the victims are appealing for help from neighbours.

Martin's dad Nigel said today: "When they went inside the shop two Asian youths went in and started taunting them for no apparent reason. My son and his friend ignored it but when they left the shop they were met with a group of about 10 more lads. My son was then hit on the back of the head with something and knocked unconscious and the lads continued to kick and punch him while he was on the floor.

"My son's friend was also given a beating. His father got out of the car to help and he was also attacked.

"While this was happening, the youths were hurling racist abuse. Both the lads had money and mobile phones on them yet nothing was taken. I just want to see these people caught and brought to justice."

Detectives are treating the attack as racially motivated. Inspector Steve Adams said: "At about
9pm on Friday, it is believed two males were assaulted by up to eight Asian males.

"One of the victims was assaulted in quite a vicious manner by having his head stamped on. He required hospital treatment to a quite serious head injury and is now recovering at home.

"We are treating this as racially motivated and it appears to have been unprovoked."
