I agree with grumpygit. Hospitals have a duty to report signs of abuse in children.
F.G.M. is abuse, so why are the perpetrators not vigorously rooted out and prosecuted?

This has horrified me for years and to have a man penetrate you when you have no sexual feelings must be a living hell.

If it is a widespread problem, why no widespread prosecutions? A straightforward child protection issue if ever there was one, it should be dealt with by public criminal proceedings and deportation of the offenders wherever possible. Medical professionals have a duty to report child abuse where they suspect it, and a clitoridectomy without anaesthetic is fairly abusive, I should imagine.
