News from around the globe that the newspapers seldom print Disclaimer and fair comment While I agree with most of the material passed on I may not be in agreement with all. However there is much we can learn from some that we disagree with. Remember it was once thought that the earth was flat. It is
left to your judgment to determine what you agree with and what to act

How
to TORPEDO the Republic |

The
republican push is on again. There are two groups involved in the push
for the Grand Republic of Oz, the honest ones who believe the monarchy
has failed us and the political scum who want a republic to give unto
themselves unlimited power and a carte blanche to pillage the public purse
without fear of getting caught.
The subversives have the backing of the mainstream media so there is no hope of them telling the truth about the dangers of a hurried dash into the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREEN style republic. Most of the honest republicans are politically naive and would not have a clue about the safeguards that would be essential in any republic. We can derail the republican push by getting these two factions fighting each other. If we send the following letter to every person who writes a letter-to-the-editor or appears in print, on radio, TV or the Internet, we will either get an honest republic or get the two factions into a fight that will end forever the happy working relationship of fools and traitors. It is up to you to photocopy the letter, monitor the media, and get the letter promptly to every honest republican.

It was obvious that the Australian people did not trust politicians. The people want some control over their destiny. Any future push for a republic must fulfil the expectations of the people. The next model constitution must come with the following two clauses: 1. Citizen Initiated Referendum The right of the people to demand and initiate laws they want and need. The Australian people will from this day forth, and for all times to come, have the right to direct the government at a federal, state or local government level to hold a referendum on an issue which is of great concern to them by gathering a petition of one percent of eligible voters (110,000 signatures federally). If 50% of voters plus one vote Yes the legislation shall be put into force. 2. Voter Veto The power to stop bad legislation before it can become law. The Australian people will from this day forth, and for all times to come, have the right to direct the government at a federal, state or local government level to hold a referendum to not proceed with intended legislation by gathering a petition of one percent of eligible voters. If 50% of voters plus one vote against the proposed legislation that legislation shall not be put into force. 3. Recall The power to dismiss any president, politician, public servant or member of the judiciary without having to wait three years. The Australian people will from this day forth, and for all times to come, have the right to direct the government at a federal, state or local government level to hold a referendum to dismiss and/or prosecute any elected or appointed government official. If 50% of voters plus one vote against the official he/she shall be dismissed. Who would not vote for a republic with these checks and balances? Such clauses would lend credibility to the republican movement and show that the republicans believe in grass roots democracy. Cathy Cleave |
