I think that the total prison population of South Africa is equal to, or slightly exceeds that of the USA... which would mean that per capita, we have 7 times as many criminals per capita as the USA!! Prisons are now too full... the justice system is buckling under the strain of those caught...

NOW REMEMBER THAT MOST CRIMINALS ARE NOT CAUGHT... THE PRISONS ARE ALREADY OVERLOADED JUST FROM THE FEW THAT ARE CAUGHT AND WHO DO NOT ESCAPE ON LEGAL TECHNICALITIES.

As you can see in the incarceration statistics below, as things stand we already have a prison population almost 3 times higher than the world average!!!

Cape Town - Correctional centres where overcrowding levels have become unmanageable might be allowed to refuse further admissions, Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour said on Wednesday.

Many prisons could not handle any more overcrowding, he said..
